Community Member Steps Up

We all have that one friend we can call when we really need something.  Sometimes that something is a truck.  And a trailer.  And a ride to Evansville, Indiana.  When you have a friend who covers all of those bases, you're in luck.   If you recall, we collected caps and turned those caps into handicapped accessible seating areas for our playground.  Even after the collection was complete, the caps kept coming.  Well, we couldn't allow them to go into a landfill, so we gathered them up and ordered more seating areas!  The problem is, Evansville is a bit of trip, especially when carrying over 1,000 pounds of plastic.

When you are a friend in need, you find a friend indeed. When he heard we had a teacher looking for a truck and trailer to transport the caps, Mr. Heath Rutledge stepped up to the plate.  As the owner of Wide Open Motors in St. Clair, Rutledge had just the equipment we needed.  He also happens to be an active Lonedell community member, and a parent at our school.  Rutledge let Mrs. Ulrich know he'd be happy to deliver the caps and pick up the new seating areas.  Bright and early on Thursday, August 23, he arrived with his trailer in tow.  Not only did we fill the trailer, but the passenger seat and extended cab of his truck.  He made the four hour trip to Green Tree Plastics in Evansville.  After unloading the caps and loading up the tables, he made the long trip back home.  Rutledge delivered the benches back to the school on Friday morning.

We are so thankful for great community members who helped us collect the caps, and especially for Mr. Heath Rutledge for donating his time and resources to help out our students.
