The Lonedell School District is taking steps to keep our students, families and employees as safe as possible during this outbreak. The district is following CDC (Center for Disease Control) guidelines. We have received guidance from several organizations including the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, as well as consulting with regional school district to form a plan.
The best and most efficient way to avoid becoming ill from COVID-19, Influenza, Strep Throat and other contagious diseases is to avoid contraction. The CDC recommends the following:
GOOD HAND WASHING
Good hand washing lasts 20 seconds with soap and water, rubbing all areas of the hands and fingers. A good way to measure 20 seconds is to sing the Happy Birthday song twice. We have gone over this with students, shown them videos instructing proper hand washing, and encourage them to wash their hands frequently. We also encourage the use of hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer is most effective when hands are rubbed together until dry and the sanitizer is at least 60% alcohol.
Students are reminded to cover their mouth and nose when sneezing. Another option is to use the inside of the elbow. Used tissues should be directly thrown into the trash. If you experience coughing or sneezing, wash hands or use hand sanitizer. If you are sick, wear a facemask when you are around others. If you are not sick, face masks are not necessary and may be in short supply. Save them for those who are ill.
Please remind your student to avoid touching their face, nose, and eyes with unwashed hands.
CLOSE CONTACT/WATER FOUNTAINS
You may have heard of the term "social distancing". For our students, this means keeping hands to themselves. We are spreading students out in lines and common areas. We are reiterating that they are not to share food. Please help us in this effort by reminding them not to share utensils, bottles, cups, or food.
We would encourage you to send a water bottle with your students to school. We have bottle fillers in two locations.
CLEANING AND DISINFECTING
At school, our custodial staff is working hard to deeply disinfect. Teachers are also wiping down items with disinfectant wipes throughout the day. Students are instructed to use alcohol wipes on their electronic devices before and after use.
As stated in the letter from Mrs. Ulrich, please keep students at home if they are sick and have them avoid close contact with others. If you suspect a serious illness, please notify the school at 636-629-0401. Please contact the Franklin County Health Department at 636-583-7300 if you suspect you are suffering from COVID-19.
With the warmer weather, many families begin thinking about traveling. At this time, we are asking any staff member or student who travels internationally or who has a family member who has traveled internationally to contact the school district to discuss return to school. Depending on the destination, return to school may be delayed. Arrangements will be made on a case by case basis with guidance from health agencies. Administration will work with your family regarding make-up work and other arrangements.
POSSIBLE SCHOOL CLOSINGS
In the event that closing school is recommended by health and safety officials or our local leaders, the district will notify parents through our normal communication outlets (texting, phone blasts, website, Facebook, and Twitter.) We are exploring alternative methods of instruction if a shutdown is necessary.
