Students Celebrate Constitution Day

Each year, students in the Lonedell School District celebrate Constitution Day on or around September 17, Official Constitution Day.  Students and staff dress in their most patriotic red, white, and blue wear and learn facts about our constitution.  A few fun facts are:

  • The U.S. Constitution has 4,400 words.
  • It is the oldest and shortest written Constitution of any major government in the world.  
  • The Constitution was "penned" by Jacob Shallus, a Pennsylvania General Assembly clerk, for $30 ($830 today). 

Middle school students have been working to learn the Preamble, and recited it as a group during morning assembly.  Just in case you've forgotten, the Preamble states: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
